Local Man Dies in Head-On Crash
A 33 year old Cheyenne man, manager of the local National Cash Register office, was killed early today near Rockport, CO., 17 miles south of here when a car he drove collided head on with a semi trailer truck.Weld County Coroner H. Ross Adamson said Orville Glen Fox, of 4515 E. 12th St., was dead at the scene in his demolished 1964 model sedan.
Adamson said Fox was driving north on U.S. Highway 85 when the collision occurred.
The coroner said the truck, pulling trailer, was owned by United Buckingham and driven by Gomer Wallace Bailey, 59, Denver.
Bailey was insured and has been transferred for further treatment to Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Hospital in Denver.
Coroner Adamson said Bailey´s injuries were not critical.
Following the initial collision between the Fox car and the United Buckingham truck, another truck-trailer unit owned by the same firm plowed into the tractor of the first truck, Adamson said.
Both truck units went off the highway, with the Fox car remaining on it, the coroner added.
He estimated total property damage from the rip collision might run as high as $75,000.
Driver of the second truck unit, said Adamson, was Chester Earl Milard, 52, of Commerce City, OH Milard was uninjured.
A spokesman for the National Cash Register office here said Fox had come here approximately a year ago from Texas.
Coroner Adamson said no funeral arrangements had been made.
