Memorial services for longtime Church of Christ minister Hugh Leonard Dennis of Crosbyton were conducted at 2 p.m. last Wednesday in the local Church of Christ. Officiating were Jim York, Carrol Robertson and Joseph Johnston.Interment was made in McAdoo Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home directed arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were Bub Eldredge, Lilburn Harvey, Kenneth Edinburgh, Wayne Edinburgh, Don Parker and Foy Owens.
Mr. Dennis was 84.
He was claimed by death at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a lengthy illness.
The well-known Dennis had served Churches of Christ in McAdoo, Edmonson, Roaring Springs, Matador, Dickens, Red Springs, Freiendship and Crosbyton. He was minister of the McAdoo Church of Christ for many years prior to his retirement.
He also was a farmer.
Born May 12, 1899, in Marlow, Okla., H. E. Dennis married the former Ouida McLaughlin on Jan. 8, 1928, in Crosbyton. The couple moved to Crosbyton four years ago from McAdoo.
Survivors include his wife, Ouida; two sons, Jack Dennis of Medford, Ore., and Ralph Dennis of Big Spring; one daughter, Lyndell Phillips of Burleson; two brothers, Wilburn Dennis of Littlefield and Starley Dennis of Levelland; three sisters, Ruby Webb, Maude Machen and Virgie Mae Foyt, all of Seymour; a half sister, Addie Studor of Lubbock; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

CROSBYTON (Special) - Services for Ouida Adell McLaughlin Dennis, 86, of Fort Worth will be at 2 p.m. today at Crosbyton Church of Christ with John Dennis, a Church of Christ minister, officiating.Burial will be in McAdoo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
She died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at Fort Worth's Huguley Hospital.
She was born Nov. 1, 1909, in McAdoo. She married Hugh Leonard Dennis on Jan. 8, 1928, in Crosbyton. He died Nov. 22, 1983. She graduated from Crosbyton High School, and she was a member of the Church of Christ. She moved to Fort Worth from Crosbyton in 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph of Big Spring and Jack of Medford, Ore.; a daughter, Lyndell Dennis Phillips of Burleson; a brother, Lloyd McLaughlin of Carlsbad, N.M.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
