Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Ioma Bass, 37, were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the McAdoo Methodist church, with Rev. J.P. Cole, McAdoo and Rev. A.A. Kendell of Morton officating. Burial was in the McAdoo cemetery.

Mrs. Bass died at her home in Morton Sunday, Jan. 30, following a long illness. McAdoo was formerly her home, and she was buried beside her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herring and a child who preceded her in death. The family moved from McAdoo to Morton in 1938. She is the daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Bass of McAdoo.

Mrs. Bass was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Hill county. Survivors include the husband, Mr. L.E. Bass; two children, James Edwin and David Gene; three brothers and three sisters.

Bradford BassFuneral services for L. B. Bass, 3218 Wood Ave., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Meeks, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in McAdoo Cemetery with Lemona Funeral Home directing services.

Mr. Bass was pronounced dead at Central Plains Regional Hospital Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. after being struck by a car in the 3000 block of Olton Road. He was working as a school crossing guard.

Mr. Bass was born Sept. 24, 1908 in Stanford [sic: Stamford] and grew up in the McAdoo area. He farmed near Morton and moved to Amarillo in 1951 and to Plainview in 1952. He married Nola Smith April 2, 1951 in Amarillo. He worked for First Baptist Church from 1956 to 1975 and had worked for True Value Hardware and Galloway's Janitorial [sic: Janitorial] Supply. He had worked as a crossing guard for the past two years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gene Bass of Plainview, Jim E. Bass of Dalhart and Travis Wooley [sic: stepson] of Killeen; three sisters, Billie Burrows [sic: Burrow] and Margaret Crowder of Amarillo and Mary Childress of Van Nuys [sic: San Pablo], Calif., 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
