Biography

Gladys Ward is the daughter of Roy and Thelma Fuquhar Ward. She married G.G. (Pete) Allen September 3, 1932 at McAdoo. They had two children, Grady George, Jr. born in 1936 and Cleta Nell, born in 1940. Grady and Pete farmed in the McAdoo area until 1963. They moved to Lubbock where Gladys worked as receptionist for over five years. She became dorm mother at the Nurses School of Medicine in Lubbock, a position she held for another five years. In 1982 Pete became ill and came to Crosbyton to live in the Care Center. Gladys took an apartment close by so she could spend as much time with him as possible. In February 1984 she also went to live in Care Center where she still resides. Pete passed away February 3, 1984.

Grady George Allen was born May 1936. He graduated from McAdoo High School in 1954. He served four years in the Naval Reserve and two years in active service, doing duty in several foreign countries. He then attended Texas Tech University and Sul Ross in Alpine, Texas. He went to work for a Geophysical Oil Corporation as instrument engineer in Alaska. There he met and married Paula Kelley, formerly of Germany on April 7, 1969. They lived in Alaska until 1963, at that time they moved to Richmond, Texas where they have a survey consultant business.

Cleta Nell Allen was born April 1940. She spent her grade school years in McAdoo and her high school years in Crosbyton. She graduated in 1958 and moved to Spur where she was employed at the Spur Security Bank. In 1960 she moved to Lubbock, working at the Lubbock National Bank while attending Texas Tech. She became secretary to the Chief of Police in Lubbock. She held that position for eleven years. She passed away in 1980 in Lubbock.

Obituary

Services for Grady George Allen Sr., 74, of Crosbyton will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church of McAdoo with the Rev. Ruth Cooper, pastor, officiating. The Rev. Wade Griffin, a retired methodist minister from Lubbock, will assist.

Burial will be in the McAdoo Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

He died at 12:50 p.m. Friday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Jones County Nov. 21, 1909. He married Gladys Ward in McAdoo in 1932. He was a retired farmer. He moved to Crosbyton a year ago from Lubbock. He was raised in the McAdoo area, going there in a covered wagon from Stamford at the age of nine months.

He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Grady Jr. of Richmond; four brothers, John A. of Jacksonville, Charley of Crosbyton, Doug of McAdoo and Woody W. of Lubbock; two sisters, Lois Hutchens and Aline McCombs, both of Lubbock.

Services for Gladys Mae Allen, 72, of Crosbyton will be at 3 p.m. today in McAdoo First United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Waid Griffin, a retired Methodist minister, officiating.

Burial will be in McAdoo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

She died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday in Crosbyton Care Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Hill County and moved to Crosbyton in 1983. She was a former employee of Lubbock Method st Hospital. She married Grady G. Allen on Sept. 3, 1932, in McAdoo. He died in 1984. A daughter, Cleta Nell Allen, died in 1980. She was a member of McAdoo First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Grady of Richmond; and three sisters, Lucile Fox and Ruth Griffin, both of McAdoo, and Katherine Griffin of Lubbock.
