J.R. Karr, 87, a citizen of the Espuela community since 1914, passed away last Friday evening at the home of a son, Daniel I. Karr of San Angelo, where he had gone for a visit.
The body was returned here and funeral services held at the Espuela Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o´clock with interment following in Espuela Cemetery. Rev. A.P. Stokes of Afton, assisted by Rev. H.L. Burnham and Rev. J.V. Bilberry conducted the services with six grandsons of Mr. Karr acting as pallbearers. The Ward Funeral Home directed. The floral offering was large and beautiful, offerings coming from each of the towns where children had lived.
Mr. Karr was a native of Georgia, was born in Gwinnett County in that state June 30, 1852. He grew to manhood in Georgia and 1877 was married to Miss Antoinette Hendrix. In 1879 he moved with his family to Texas and in 1914 moved to Dickens County and settled in the Espuela community.
There were nine children in the family, six sons and three daughters. One son, Willie, passed away while a baby only two years of age. The other children are: J.L Karr of Espuela, R.E. Karr of Crosbyton, J.H. Karr of Wichita Falls, Daniel L. Karr of San Angelo, Ralph Karr of Crane, Mrs. Annie Mabe of Levelland, Mrs.Lillian Clements of Shamrock, and Mrs. Beal McBride of Kermit. There are 32 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He is survived by the above named children and one brother, D.F. Karr of Buford, Georgia. Mrs. Karr passed away March 11, 1928, at about the age of 70 years. Since then Mr. Karr has spent most of his time with his children and in visiting friends. He went to San Angelo just a week before his demise to visit with his son there. He became ill Tuesday night of last week and passed away Friday evening.
He had lived a Christian life 62, making a profession of religion in 1878. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was loyal until his death. He held the confidence and esteem of all who knew him, and those who knew him best, praised him most.
Honorary pallbearers were: W. F. Foreman, G.L. Delisle, R.C. McMahan, W.A. Harris, J.M. Dawson, John Sharp., Willie Williams, W.C. Ball, E.J. Bilberry and S.L. Benefield. These were close friends who had visited Mr. Karr regularly during his illness. Re. R.C. Brown and his quartet rendered special music.

Mrs. J.R. Karr died Sunday at the family home near Espuela, following an illness of ten days suffering of pneumonia, her remains being interred Monday in the Espuela Cemetery.Mrs. Karr was seventy years of age, having been born November 26, 1857, in Hall County, Georgia. Mr. and Mrs. Karr, in January of this year celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, her maiden name being Esther Antenette Hendrix. Soon after their marriage in Georgia, Mr. and Mrs. Karr came to Texas, in 1897, locating a home in Hunt county where they lived ten years, moving from there to Hardeman and Willbarger counties, and then to Dickens county thirteen or fourteen years ago, soon after the opening of Spur.
Mrs. Karr was a consistent Christian woman, having been an active member of the Missionary Baptist Church for more than fifty years.
There were eight children in the family, five boys and three girls, all of who were at the bed side when death came. The children are J.L. Karr of Espuela, Ed and Henry Karr of Crosbyton, Dann Karr of Oklaunion and Ralph Karr of Breckenridge; Mrs. Annie Mabe of Levelland, Mrs. Lillian Clements of Wellington, and Mrs. Beal McBride of Spur. J.R. Hendrix, a brother of Chillicothe was also here to attend the funeral. Another brother and a sister living in Alabama, were unable to come. Aside from members of the family, a number of friends from Medicine Mound, Crosbyton and Spur attended the funeral. Her pastor, Rev. Victor Crabtree, conducted the services.
In the death of Mrs. Karr the country has lost a good, true Christian woman. The Texas Spur extends sympathy to the family in this bereavement.

Mrs. J.R. Karr, 70, of Espuela community, died at her home last Sunday evening after an illness of two weeks, pneumonia being the cause of her death. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon by Rev. Victor Crabtree and interment was made in Espuela Cemetery. W.B. Williams was funeral director.Mrs. Karr´s maiden name was Miss Esther Annette Hendrix. She was born in Hall County, Ga., November 26, 1857. January of this year Mr. and Mrs. Karr celebrated their 50th anniversary and had the pleasure of heaving their eight children and a number of friends with them on this occasion. She and her husband moved to Hunt County, Texas in November 1897 where they resided for ten years. They moved to their present home in Dickens County in 1914. She is survived by her husband and eight children, five sons and three daughters.
The children are: R.E. and J.H. Karr, of Crosbyton, D.L. Karr, of Oklaunion, J.R. Karr, of Breckenridge, Mrs. L.E. Mabe, of Levelland, Mrs. Carey Clements, of Wellington, Mrs. Homer McBride and J.L. Karr, of Spur.
Mrs. Karr was a member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed a rich religious experience. She always let her life be an inspiration to those who knew her and held a motherly influence over the young people of her community. For this reason she will be missed by those who associated with her; especially will her husband miss her because of the years of devotion they had for each other.
