Obituary

Funeral Mass for San Juana Lozano Zarate, 77, of Dickens will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Matador. Interment will follow in the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens under the direction of Shannon Funeral Home of Matador.

Mrs. Zarate passed away in Lubbock on Monday, May 10, 2010. San Juana was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church. She was married to Jesus Flores Zarate on April 18th,1949.

Mrs. Zarate was preceded in the death by her parents, David and Isabel Lozano; and by one son, Samuel Zarate.

She is survived by her children, Benita Moreno of Matador, Texas, Isabel Julian, Jesus L. Zarate, Andy Zarate and Patricia Franklin, all of Dickens, Mary Lou Burks of San Antonio, Stephen Zarate of Dickens, Alicia Jacobs of San Antonio, Yolanda Kautz of Dickens, Esther Palma of Waldorf, Md. and Melinda Lederman of Johnson, Kan.; 25 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Jesus ZarateA Funeral Mass for Jesus Florez Zarate, 83, of Dickens was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 19, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Matador with Father Consemino officiating. Interment was at Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Matador. A Rosary was held Thursday October 18, 2012 from 5:00 to 6:00 at Zapata Funeral Home of Matador.

Jesus was born on November 28, 1928 in Carrizo Springs, Tx to Locadio Zarate and Benita Florez. He passed from this life on October 17, 2012 in Lubbock, Tx. on April 19, 1949 he married San Juana Lozano in Carrizo Springs, Tx. From this union they had twelve children. Jesus made his family a living as a farmer. He owned a farm in Dickens County.

Jesus is survived by his children: Jesus Zarate and wife Veronica, Andy Zarate and wife Ruthie, Isabel Julian, Yolanda Kautz and husband Bobby, MaryLou Burkes all of Dickens, Patricia Franklin of Slaton, Benita Moreno and husband Roy of Matador, Esther Palma of Leonardtown, Maryland, Alicia Jacobs of San Antonio, Melinda Lederman and husband Jason of Brownfield, and Stephen Zarate of Amarillo. A sister: Alicha Ayala of Colorado A brother: Samuel Zarate of Colorado 24 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren

He is preceeded in death by his wife San Juana Zarate, a son Sammy Zarate, and his parents. The family asks that memorials be made to Dickens Senior Citizens.
