J.B. Yantis passes away
Jesse B. Yantis, 80, died at Dickens about 3:30 o'clock yesterday morning. Funeral services were held at Dickens cemetery at five o'clock Wednesday afternoon and the interment followed.Mr. Yantis came to this county in an early day and was among the pioneers here. He was engaged in business at Dickens a number of years where he built up a wide acquaintance. He served the county as county treasurer for several terms and was in public life in many ways.
He went from Dickens to El Paso where he was engaged in business for some time. In 1921 he moved to Roaring Springs and purchased a variety store there which he conducted for a long time. He then moved to what is now Elton, then known as Midway, and started the first store in that community. He sold his store out two or three years ago and was forced to go to Colorado for his health. He came back to Dickens two years ago and stated he was ready and expected to remain there until his death.
He is widely known among the early settlers of the county and was greatly respected for honest principals.
