Biography

John Thomas Wright (known as Uncle "Bill") was born in 1905, in Boswell, Oklahoma along with 2 other brothers, Emmett Eugene B: 1906 D: 1907, Juel James B: 1908. His father, James Emmett Wright died in Oklahoma when he was about 27 yrs old and he is buried in Boswell, OK, next to his son Emmett Eugene Wright. His mother, Florence Jackson Wright, after the death of her husband, went to live with her in-laws, as listed on the 1910 Census in Archer Cty, Texas. She meet and married Victor Mills Calwell around 1911, and to this union 4 more children were born, Beatrice Estel Caldwell, Clarence William Caldwell, Wesley Harold Caldwell and Joyce Victoria Caldwell.

John Thomas Wright married Novis Alpha Singleton. Their children (two boys and two girls): Norman Eugene, Earl Ray, LaFona and Billie.

John Thomas Wright was named after his two grandfathers, John Marion Wright and Andrew Thomas Jackson.

John Thomas Wright was also known as Uncle Bill, he was born 3 Dec 1904 in Boswell, OK; he died 5 Nov 1981. His mother's name was Florence Jackson Wright, the daughter of Andrew thomas Jackson. John remarried to a woman of last name of Hawley.

Obituary

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Northside Church of Christ, Dickens, for Novis Alpha Wright, 66. She died August 12 in the Crosbyton Nursing Home.

Fred Gibson, Lubbock and Billy Ray McBride of Post, officiated.

Mrs. Wright came to Dickens County in 1941. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, J. T. Wright, Dickens; two daughters, Wanda Copeland, Afton and Billie Fay Smith, Lubbock; one son, Norman Wright, Fontana, CA; a brother, Boyd Singleton, Pasadena, CA; a sister, Modene Ratliff, Big Springs; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Fred Arrington, Hubert Collins, Foy Jackson, James Baker, Claude Swaringen and Felix Hash.

Burial was in Dickens Cemetery.
