Biography

Albert (Ab) Sanford Swan and Lillie May Ewell were married December 4, 1915. Albert was born in Shackleford County January 9, 1894 and came to Dickens County with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Samuel Sanford Swan in the late 1890's and homesteaded east of Dickens. Albert Samuel Sanford Swan lived from October, 1847 to March, 1935, his wife from August 1856 to July, 1928.

Albert went to a school for mechanics in Kansas City, once in 1916. Albert's brothers were Randal, Oliver and Ira; sisters, Ollie, Birdie, Etta and Tishey. Lillie's brothers; Edd, Hugh, John, Allen, and Dawson; sisters: Beulah, Alma, Myrtle and Elsie. They moved to Dickens County in 1915.

Obituary

Funeral services were conducted for Albert Sanford Swan Saturday, August 8, at 4 p.m. in the Dickens Church of Christ. Bro. Naval Baze of Tuxedo officiated.

Swan was born January 9, 1894 and died August 6, 1953. He had been a resident in Dickens for the past 55 years. He had beena member of the Church of Christ for 14 years and in 1915 he was married to Lillie Mae Ewell.

He is survived by six daughters, Nadine Dozier of Dickens; Lora Ogdon of Rotan, Mary Walton of Fort Worth; Gracie Lee of Plainview; Jane and Bobbie who are still at home; five sons, Willie of Spearman; Luther of Pecos; Richard of U.S. Army now stationed in Germany; J. S. of Sweetwater and Jimmie who is still at home; one sister, Mrs. Etta E. Lockett of Girard; one brother, M. O. Swan of Dundee and 16 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charlie Gage, J. W. Vickory, Buster Arthur, Henry Edwards, Johnny Koonsman and Clay Edwards.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
