Obituary

Funeral services for Odie Stephens were held Thursday, June 24, at the Dickens Church of Christ with George Calvert of Lubbock officiating.

Mrs. Stephens was born June 28, 1877 in Johnson county, Texas. She came to Dickens county in 1910. In 1897 she married Wylie M. Stephens in Cleburne, Texas.

She died Wednesday, June 23, 1954.

Survivors are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Grady Moss of Shallowater; Mrs. C.T. Morris of New Blaine, AR; and Mrs. Faye Katherine Wooley of McAdoo; five sons, Leroy of San Antonio, W.M.Jr. of Phillipsburg, KS; William A. of Los Angeles, CA; J.W. and W.J. both of Amarillo; one sister, Ivaline Underwood of Cleburne, Texas.

Pallbearers were Paul Opal, Henry Offield, Fred Arrington, Faye Slough, E.V. Arthur and Thurman Hoover.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Wiley Morgan Stephens, 85, was buried at Dickens Tuesday, March 19, 1957, with funeral services held at the Dickens Church of Christ, George Calvert of Lubbock officiated.

Stephens was born on March 23, 1871 in Kentucky. He died on March 18, 1957. He came to Texas in 1886 and to Dickens County in 1910, settling at Dickens. He married Ola Street at Cleburne on March 12, 1896. Early in life he was converted to the Christian religion and was a member of the Church of Christ. His wife preceded him in death in 1954.

Pallbearers were Cecil Meadors, Roy Ward, Fred Arrington, Faye Slough, E.V. Arthur, Jim Offield and Cleo Rogers.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. C. Therris of New Blaine, Ark. and Mrs. Grady Moss of Anton; five sons, Leroy of Sumner, Ill., W.M. Jr. of East St. Louis, Ill., William A. of Duarte, California, J.W. of Olton, Texas and W.J. of Amarillo; two sisters, Mrs. Charles H. Potter of Clayton, NM and Mrs. James M. Potter of Dalhart, Texas; a brother, A.A. Stephens of Lubbock, 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. One grand-daughter, Mrs. Novis Wooley of Belton, Texas was reared in the Stephens home.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Campbell's Funeral Home, Spur.
