Biography

On May 15, 1918, a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Formby at Afton, Texas. Her name was Mildred Virginia.

"I lived at Afton until 1924, then moving to Silverton with my family in Briscoe County. There I finished grade school, which was grade seven. Then in 1932, we moved to Spur, Texas and I graduated in 1936. It was more or less during the depression years, so we had to make our own fun, such as borrowing people's watermelons. In fact, that is where I met my husband, the late Fay Slough. We were married in 1937 and had two wonderful sons. Paul Alvin, now living in Post, Texas and Dewey Jay, living in Amarillo. I have 3 wonderful grandchildren; P.J., Paul's son and Shane and Jennifer, Dewey's son and daughter. They were all born after my husband, Fay, was killed in a house explosion. I was in California visiting and helping take care of a sick brother. Fay Slough got one of the first basketball sweaters that was issued in Dickens school and our son Paul got one of the last that was issued. Now, what time I'm not working, I'm on the road visiting my children and grandchildren."
