Obituary

DICKENS (Special) — Services for Fonzo Gardner Shaw, 88, of Dickens are pending with Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.

He died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock after an illness.

Born in Dickens County, he married Vivian Hadaway on Nov. 11, 1917. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the VFW. He was a trucker and cement contractor.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Tom, Dean and Donald of Dickens. Darrell of Weatherford and Carl and Dennis of Vega; five daughters, Gustine Beaver of Yucaipa, Calif., Lillie Mae Griffin of McAdoo, Flora Lee Pernell of Vega, Marie Byrd of Meadow and Corene McDowell of Amarillo; a brother, John Shaw of San Diego,Calif.; and a sister, Lottie Stewart of Lockney.

Services were held Monday, February 13, 1995, in the Dickens Baptist Churh for Vivian Mae Shaw, 94, of Dickens. Rev. C.L. Atkins, Afton and Rev. Robert Fields, Amarillo, officiated.

Burial was in Dickens Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shaw died at 6:44 a.m. February 10, 1995 in the Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. Death was due to natural causes.

She was born in Water Valley Mississippi on August 17, 1900 and had lived most of her life in DickensCounty. She married Fonzo Gardner Shaw in Dickens County on November 11, 1917. He preceded her in death July 7, 1984. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include five sons: Darrell Shaw, Weatherford; Dean Shaw, Slaton; Donald Shaw, Dickens; Carl and Dennis Shaw, both of Vega; five daughters, Gustine Beaver, Yucaipa, California; Lillie Mae Griffin, Lake Stamford; Flora Lee Pernell, Vega; Marie Byrd, Dickens and Corine McDowell, Plainview; one brother, Paul Hadaway, Pico Reviro, California; 27 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
