Graveside services for Jerry Monroe Lewis, 49, Dickens, were at 2 p.m. August 26, 1989 in the Dickens Cemetery. Rev. C. L. Atkinson, pastor of the Afton Baptist Church, officiated.

Burial was in Dickens Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lewis died Aguust 24, 1989 at his home. Death was ruled due to natural causes. He was born April 20, 1940 in Spur. A farmer and rancher, he had lived most of his life in Dickens County.

He married the former Sandy Bateman on Decmeber 24, 1961 in Afton. He was valedictorian of the class of 1958 at Patton Springs High School. He was also a former member of the Patton Springs School Board.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Lewis, Dickens; three sons, Stephen Lewis; Eagle Pass; Shannon Lewis, El Paso; and James Lewis, Dickens; one brother, Stanley Lewis, Whitney; one sister, Inell Atkinson, Dickens; his mother, Avis Lewis, Dickens and one grandchild.

Pallbearers were James Baker, J. W. Vickry, Jr., Guy Goen, Buck Scott, Stanley Hash and Bill Perryman.
