Obituary

Funeral services were held Monday, February 15, for John Thomas Jones, 80 year old Dickens resident, who died at 2:30 Sunday morning in the Nichols General Hospital. Mr. Jones had suffered a stroke before developing pneumonia, which was the cause of his death.

Mr. Jones was born on December 7, 1867 in Mississippi and while still a young man came to Texas, in which state he spent the remainder of his life.

Before moving to Dickens in 1922, he made his home in Breckenridge.

In the year 1890, Mr. Jones married Sadie Humphrey and ten children were born of this union. Earl Jones, a son who preceded him in death, died at the age of 38.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. J.T. Jones, five daughters, Ruby Tucker, Audry Fowler, Mable Owings, Allie Weinland and Pauline Cunningham; four sons, Denis Jones, Olen Jones, Peter Jones and Paul Jones; one brother, Frank Jones of Brawley, California, and one sister, Mattie Hudman of Bryson, Texas. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Racy Cunningham, Johnny Gage, Robert Williams, Clyde White, Lee Mims, and Charlie Gage. Brother Pasley of Crosbyton conducted the services which were held at the Church of Christ in Dickens. Graveside services were conducted by Spur Masonic Lodge 1023, A.F. & A.M.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery with McDonald Funeral Home, of Matador, in charge.

Mrs. Sadie May Jones, 76, long time resident of Dickens, died about 4 a.m.Tuesday in a Kermit hospital of pneumonia.

Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Church of Christ, Dickens. Rev. George T. Baker, officiating.

Burial was in the Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Bryan McDonald & Son Funeral home of Lubbock.

Mrs. Jones is survived by four sons, Dennis of Alamagordo, N.M., Olen of Kermit, Pete of Dickens and John Paul of Odessa; five daughters, Mrs. Ruby Tucker of Oran, Mrs. Audrey Fowler of Dickens, Mrs. Mabel Ewings of Kermit, Mrs. Allie Wenland of Odessa, and Mrs. Pauline Cunningham of Dickens; 26 grandchildren. Her husband died about a year ago.
