Elmer Gunnels Mr. Elmer "Bud" Gunnels was born on October 26, 1923 to the late Alvy Emary & Louisia Carolina Simpson Gunnels. He passed away March 25, 2005 in Lubbock at the age 81.

He married Ouida Atkinson on Jan. 21, 1946 in Dickens; she preceded him in death on March 17, 2005. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Clark. Mr. Gunnels worked for Polka Lambro, until retiring in 1973. After retirement he moved to Dickens and farmed until he retired from farming in 2004. Mr. Gunnels moved back to Tahoka in 2004. He was member of the Sweet Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby & Mary Gunnels of Hagerman, NM; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna & Doyle Willis of Tahoka; grandchildren, Andrew and wife Kristin Gunnels of Hagerman, NM, Robert Gunnels of Hagerman, NM, Doyle "Bebo" and wife Kristy Willis of Lubbock, Darla and husband Robert Heinrich of Idalou and Delci Willis of Tahoka; one great-grandson, Austin Gunnels of Hagerman, NM; and one sister Irene Jackson of Spur.

He is preceded in death by one son Gary Gunnels in 1998, four sisters and one brother.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Sweet Street Baptist Church in Tahoka with Reverend Kerry Gandy officiating and Reverend Lynn Long assisting. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. at the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, under the direction of White Funeral Home of Tahoka. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to North Dickens County Senior Citizens or Sweet Street Baptist Church.

Ouida GunnelsMrs. Ouida Gunnels passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005, in Lubbock, at the age 78. She was born Aug. 21, 1926 to the late Claude and Minnie Johnston Atkinson. She married Elmer "Bud" Gunnels Jan. 21, 1946 in Dickens.

Mrs. Gunnels managed Dixie Dog Drive Inns in Petersburg, Wilson, Idalou and Tahoka from 1974-1994. After retiring, she became a C.N.A and worked for Covenant Home Health from 1995-2003. Mrs. Gunnels was a member of the Sweet Street Baptist Church, and a longtime Tahoka resident.

Survivors include her husband, Bud Gunnels of Tahoka; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Mary Gunnels of Hagerman, N.M.; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Doyle Willis of Tahoka; grandchildren, Andrew Gunnels and wife Kristin of Hagerman, Robert Gunnels of Hagerman, Doyle "Bebo" Willis and wife Kristy of Lubbock, Darla and husband Robert Heinrich of Idalou, and Delci Willis of Tahoka; a great-grandson, Austin Gunnels of Hagerman; two brothers, Don Atkinson of Post and C.L. Atkinson of Afton; and two sisters, Bobbie Hix of Dickens and Elmyra Greenwood of Spur.

She is preceded in death by a son, Gary Gunnels, in 1998, three brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
