Funeral services were conducted for Alvie E. (Pete) Gunnels Sunday, June 7, at the First Baptist Church of Dickens. Rev. Victor Crabtree officiated, assisted by Fred Gibson.

Gunnels was born November 13, 1887, and died June 5 at 9:30 a.m. He had been a resident of Dickens County for the past 32 years.

He was married to Lou Simpson at Haskell in 1909.

Pallbearers at the funeral were George Pierce, Fred Arrington, Willia Street, Roy Finchum, R.C. Littlefield and Foy Slough.

Survivors were his wife; two sons, Elmer and Leon of Burburnett; five daughters, Mrs. Opal Martin of Buckeye, Ariz., Mrs. Allie Beechley of Abilene, Mrs. Elsie Reese of Lubbock, Mrs. Irene Jackson, Mrs. Velma Clay of Dickens; one brother, Charlie Gunnels of Okla; one sister, Mrs. Laura Helmer of Portales, N.M.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery with Chandler´s Funeral Home in charge.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Dickens Baptist Church, for Mrs. Louisa Caroline Gunnels, 80. Rev. Victor Crabtree officiated.

Mrs. Gunnels died Jan. 15 in Hendrick Hospital, Abilene. She came to Dickens County in 1921 and resided at Dickens until 1957 when she moved to Tahoka. She had made her home in Abilene since 1967. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Opal Martin, Tahoka; Mrs. Allie Beechley, Abilene; Mrs. Elsie Reese, Sand Springs, Okla.; Mrs. Irene Jackson, Dickens; Mrs. Velma Clay, Dickens; two sons, Elmer Gunnels, Tahoka; and Leon Gunnels, Dickens. Two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Edge, O'Brien; Mrs. Doll Miller, Wollforth and one brother, Ike Simpson, San Angelo. 18 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Fred Arrington, Johnnie Koonsman, Ray Finchum, Faye Slough, Henry Edwards, Wade Corley.

Interment was in Dickens Cemetery.
