Robert Green U.S.Flag   SPUR-Robert C. "Spec" Green, 88, of Spur died Monday, June 13, 2005 in Crosbyton.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Spur with the Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial will be in Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mr. Green was born Jan. 15, 1917 in Dickens to Thomas and Jeffie Hutson Green, early pioneer settlers in Dickens County. He graduated from Dickens High School and attended Texas Tech. He served in the U.S. Seventh Cavalry at Ft. Bliss as a part of the last mounted cavalry. He married Theatus Rogers Nov. 2, 1942 in Dickens.

Through the years, Spec taught and coached at Wilson, Southland and Guthrie High Schools. He worked for Humble Oil in Guthrie for a time. He then took a position as state meat inspector in Post for many years.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sydnie Green in 1999; six brothers and one sister.

"Spec" is survived by his wife, Theatus of Spur; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sandy Green of Lubbock/Ropesville; one daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Wayne Rider of Denton; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Campbell Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 415, Spur, TX 79370.
