U.S.Flag   The Supreme Commander in Chief has called His loyal warrior home. Command Sergeant Major Thurman A. (T.A.) Cowan, of Lubbock, formerly of Hazen, AR, has returned to God after many years of battle in body and spirit. He was born to Earnest and Repsy Cowan, October 13, 1921 in Correll County and left us on Thursday, July 2, 2009.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Sanders Memorial Chapel. Interment with military honors will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday at Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m.

CSM Cowan joined God's Army as a teenager and was still on duty until 2009, served the Navy in 1943 in the Pacific, as a Civil Engineer at Reese AFB, then in the Army National Guard until retirement in 1981. T.A. was an Arkansas Correction Officer at the Boot Camp. He served the City of Hazen, AR as Administrative Assistant to the Mayor 18 years until retiring in April 2006.

T.A. moved to Lubbock in April 2006 where he and his childhood sweetheart, Thelma Cowan, were reunited in marriage May 28, 2006. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and was very diligent in study and prayer. He enjoyed fellowship of friends at 3 Rs.

T.A. is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William (Bo); sisters, Frances Hash and Stella May Martin; and three grandsons, Thurman Micah, Carlton Earl, and Calvin Brit Dozier. He will be mourned and admired by his wife, Thelma of Lubbock; daughters, Linda Dozier of Lubbock, Vickie Anderson and husband Jim of Clearwater, FL, and Patricia Smith and husband, Jim of Lancaster, TX. T.A. was very proud of his grandsons, Damion Brooker of The Colony, TX, Mark Burt of Jenx, OK, and Adrian Brooker of Lewisville, TX. He adored his granddaughters, Lynita Russell of Lubbock and Tracie Burt of Nixa, MO; seven great grandchildren; his beloved church families of Hazen and Lubbock; and a host of friends.
