Funeral services for David Thurman Clay, 75, Dickens were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Dickens Church of Christ with B. L. Hern, Lubbock, officiating.Clay died August 8 about 6:15 p.m. in the Crosbyton Hospital following a brief illness. Burial was in Dickens Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home of Spur in charge of arrangements.
Born December 13, 1910, in Wills Point, he married the former Elva Hemphill October 19, 1934 in Altus, Oklahoma. He had resided most of his life in Dickens County and was employed with the county for 25 years. A member of the Churchof Christ, he was retired at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Elva Clay, Dickens; three sons,Leo Clay, Azle, and Larry and Ronnie Clay, both of Afton; two daughters, Pat Craddick, Lubbock, and Jimmie Schaake, Haskell; two brothers, Benny Clay, Clarendon, and Oma Clay, Dickens; one sister, Juanita Ray, Brownfield, and 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Elva Warren Clay died December 23, 2009 at the age of 94 in Crosbyton, Texas. She was born on June 24, 1915 to James Hartford and Edna Davis in Sneedville, Texas. Elva was a long time resident of Dickens, Texas.
Elva Clay was survived by three sons Leo Clay of Azle, Texas, Larry Clay and Ronnie Clay both of Lubbock, Texas. Two Daughters Pasty Craddick of Lubbock, Texas and Jimmie Schaake of Haskell, Texas. She was also survived by one sister Ila Daniel Ft. Worth, Texas and two brothers J. E. Hemphill of Peacock, Texas and Tommy Hemphill of Blossom, Texas. Sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be December 27, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Dickens Cemetery, in Dickens, Texas with Tommy Hemphill officiating under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
