Services for James Allen Chesney, 81, Snyder, formerly of Spur, were at 3 p.m. May 12, 1990 in the Dickens Baptist Church, with Rev. C. L. Atkinson, pastor of the Afton Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial was in Dickens Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home, Spur.

Chesney, who served as Sheriff of Dickens County for 13 years (1964-1975) died about 6:55 p.m. May 10, 1990 in St. Mary of the Plains Hospital, Lubbock. He was born in Rotan on September 17, 1908 and had lived in Dickens County most of his life. He moved to Snyder in 1989.

He was also a farmer. He married Cleo Lewis on February 18, 1928 in Dickens. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include Cleo Chesney, Snyder; three daughters, Jimmie Turner, Dallas; Bonnie Hudson, Snyder; Ruth Cummins, Odessa; a sister, Velma Cunningham, Hurst and eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Jerry Don Griffin, Harold Adams, Bobby Hudson, Gaylon Hudson, Jim Hudson and Mike Harvey.
