Van Orman CashVan Orman Cash, age 75, passed from this life into the heavenly world on May 4, 2011. He was born in Knox County, Gilliland, Texas, on Dec. 24, 1935, to the late Odis and Janie (Johnson) Cash. He and his brother, LaVerl (class of 1949), lived most of their young lives in Spur. Van graduated with the 1954 class at Spur High School. He attended ACC in Abilene for one year before enlisting in the Army. He spent most of his service time in Germany. Upon returning to the states, he attended West Texas State University at Canyon until his marriage to Yvonne "Tookie" (Nichols) Cash on April 4, 1959, in Dickens County. He worked in Lubbock as a finance manger for 10 years before returning to Dickens County to pursue his lifelong desire to farm and ranch. Here he and Tookie raised two wonderful children, Vance Porter Cash, who married Kelli Renae Roberts, and Cristy Vachel Cash, who married Larry Joe McClenny. He also had the opportunity to have a part in the rearing of four wonderful grandchildren who were a blessing and brought him much joy: one grandson, Reagan McClenny, married to Stephanie, of Lufkin; three granddaughters, Kara Cash Bishop, married to Wesley, of Lubbock, Machaia McClenny of Lindale and Kaitlyn Cash of Lubbock.

Van felt privileged to preach the gospel of Christ all of his adult life. He was a faithful member of the church of our Lord and looked for a city whose builder and maker is God.

Services for Van will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 6th, in the Franklin Bartley Chapel with Dee Bowman and Reagan McClenny officiating. Interment will be at 4:30 p.m. at Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Texas. The family requests memorials for Van be sent to Dickens Volunteer Fire Department, Box 189, Dickens, TX 79229.
