Funeral services were held Tuesday in the First Baptist Church, Dickens, for Genie Ryen Carroll, 67. Mr. Carroll was a well-known Dickens bootmaker. Rev. Dan Burrow officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert Field, Azle. Mr. Carroll died Monday in a Veterans Hospital in Dallas. He had been ill about eight months.Born in Crickett County, Arkansas, Mr. Carroll married the former Lillie Biggs in Weatherford, Texas on May 21, 1922. He first came to Dickens County in 1920 and made his home at Dickens. He was a member of the Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillie Carroll, Dickens; one daughter, Mrs. William Butler, Haskell; one son, Cecil Carroll, Dickens, one sister, Mrs. H. Shelmon Collins, Dickens and one half brother, Bill Carroll, Dickens. Pallbearers were Johnny Koonsman, Guy Felmy, Robert Reynolds, Ralph Bennett, R. L. Cornett and Cecil Meadors. Interment was in Dickens Cemetery.

DICKENS (Special) Mrs. Lillie Carroll, 79, died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday in Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene. Services have been set for 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church of Dickens.Campbell Funreal Home of Spur is in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Robert Fields of Halfway is officiating. Burial will be in Dickens Cemetery.
Mrs. Carroll was born Aug. 16, 1803, in Parker County. She was a resident of Dicknes County since 1922. She was married to Genan Carroll May 21, 1922, in Weatherford. He died in 1963.
Survivors include a son, Cecil of Dickens; a daughter, Mrs. William Butler of Hsaskell; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Crain, of Fort Worth, Mrs. Lucille Crawford and Mrs. Ora Steward, both of Stephenville, and Mrs. Ollie Dugan of Burleson; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
