The oldest son of J.E. (Uncle Dink) Arthur and Elmina Bowen (Aunt Ell) Arthur, he served his entire life on various ranches, The Matadors, Swensons and 6666. He lived single and was happiest on his horse working cattle or cooking those famous foods, such as sour dough biscuits, beans and beef for the chuck wagon or as a treat to his own guest. He died in 1948 after a lengthy illness.

Obituary

Funeral services for Benjamin Tood Arthur, 66, who passed away at the home of his brother, Olen Arthur of Spur, on Monday night, April 26, 1948, after a short illness, were held Wednesday afternoon, April 28th, in the Church of Christ in spur, with Bro. Frank L. Cox officiating.

Tood Arthur as he was called by his friends in Dickens County, was a man liked and respected by all who knew him. He was one of the pioneers of this section and has many friends among the old time cowboys, with whom he rode the range in days long gone. He was a member of the Church of Christ and as long as his health permitted was to be found in his place there.

He was born August 5th, in 1881, in Eastland County, has lived in Texas all his life With his parents, he came to Dickens County in 1898, and has lived in and around this section ever since.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Elmina Arthur of Dickens; two brothers, E.V. Arthur, of Dickens and O.C. Arthur of Spur, a number of nephews and nieces, two sister-in-laws, Mrs. W. B. Arthur, wife of the late W.B. Arthur, El Paso, and Mrs. W.M. Arthur, wife of the late W.M. Arthur of Glenn.

Pallbearers were Robert McAteer, E.S. Lee, Jim Koonsman, O.M. McGinty, J.B. Morrison and Ned Bowers of Matador.

Chandler Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens.
