Services held Wednesday for Newman Young
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Missionary Baptist Church, Afton, for Newman Henry Young, 48. He died Tuesday in Spur Memorial Hospital. He had been a life-long resident of Afton. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Born in March 1913, Mr. Young was married in Roaring Springs in 1935 to the former Shirley C. Hansen.
Officiating at the services were Baptist elders Kenneth Martin, Floydada and E.J. Norman, Childress and Rev. Roy Moseley, pastor of the Afton Church.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Young and his wife, all of Afton; two sons, Bill Young, and Manuel Young, both of McAdoo; three daughters, Mrs. John Cornett, Lubbock and Barbara and Linda Young, Afton. One surviving sister, Mrs. Jim Speights, resides in Dell City. Two grandchildren survive. Pallbearers include T.J. Randolph, Sam Porter, Peyton Legg, J.E. Cornett, Johnny Wooley, Elton Vaungan, Otis Mobley, and Jim Offield. Interment was in the Afton Cemetery.
