Jacob Scott, pioneer citizen of Dickens County, died at Afton early Wednesday morning after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held at Afton Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Rev. A.P.Stokes conducted the services. Interment followed in Afton Cemetery with the Kinney Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.

Mr. Scott was a native of Alabama and was born at Lauderdale, March 26, 1859. He was 78 years of age last March. He came to Dickens county about 1890 before the county was organized and spent much of his early life as a cattleman.

He is survived by eleven nephews and eight nieces, being all of the near relative he had. Those present for the funeral were Mrs. Cy Hickman of Afton, Mrs. Gladys Holy of Dickens, O.C. Scott of Roaring Springs, Cecil Scott of Spur and Bill Scott of Dickens.

Friends from a distance were Ed Martin of Dalhart and Jim Martin of Tyrone, Oklahoma.

Active pallbearers were T.B. Haney, E.N. Johnson, J.T. Jackson, H.V. Jackson and A.J. Dozier.
