Funeral Rites Read for Afton Youth

Services for Carney Willard Roberts, 14, of Afton, were read at 4 p.m., August 15, 1949, in the Afton Baptist Church with Rev. A.P. Stokes officiating, assisted by E.J. Keith.

Young Roberts was killed August 14 in a tractor mishap at Afton.

He was born July 13, 1935, in Dickens County where he had resided since with his parents.

Pallbearers were Bill Vickery, Jim Galloway, Jack Lawson, F.L. Byers, Alford Norris, and Jim Offield. Honorary pallbearers were J.W. Vickery, Leroy Carrothers, Kenneth Young and Stanley Browner.

Immediate survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carney Roberts and a sister Sidney Carol, of Afton; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Roberts, Afton and Mrs. V.W. Stephenson, Fort Worth. A number of aunts, uncles and other relatives also survive.

Interment was in the Afton Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
