Car Wreck Kills Gus Martin, 81

Funeral services for A.C. (Gus) Martin, 81, were held Sunday afternoon at the Afton Baptist Church. Martin was killed Thursday night in an auto accident.

Rev. Roy Moseley, pastor of the Afton Baptist church, officiated. He was assisted by 110th Judicial District Judge, L.D. Ratliff.

Born in Erath County in 1879, Mr. Martin came to Dickens County in 1918 where he made his home in Afton.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. A.C. Martin, Afton, and two daughters and one son. They include Nay France Laymance, Lubbock and Lanele Martin, Afton; T.A. Martin, Afton. Two brothers and one sister also survive. They are: Mrs. Allie Barton, Afton; D.X. Martin, Tustin, CA, and C.C. Martin, Arlington, Texas.

Pallbearers included J.W. McAllister, Gaston Jackson, T.B.Haney, Curtis Goodwin, Eldred Cornett and Alfred Walker.

Interment was in Afton Cemetery, Campbells Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
