S.C. Loyd Dead

While the people of Dickens county are still bowed down with sorrow on account of the loss of one of its most worthy citizens,, the news is heralded that another one has gone to try the realities of another world.

After an illness of only a few days with inflammatory rheumatism, S.C. Loyd died at his farm home six miles east of Afton Monday at 1 o´clock p.m., and his remains were laid to rest in Cottonwood cemetery Tuesday afternoon.

The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the late home of the deceased by his pastor Rev. G.C. Jenkins, after which a large procession of loved ones and friends conveyed his body to the Cottonwood cemetery where the interment took place late in the afternoon.

Mr. Loyd was one of our most worthy citizens, and the entire county deeply feels his loss. he was a true Christian and a staunch member of the Baptist church, and in his death the county loses one of its most useful citizens, his family a devoted husband and loving father and his church one of its truest and most useful members.

He leaves a wife, five children, his mother and several brothers and sisters, and a host of friends to mourn his death.

Obituary

S.C. Loyd was born in Houston County, Texas, August 17th, 1863, and moved to Eastland county with his parents when a boy. His parents settled on a farm near Jewell, where Mr. Loyd grew to manhood. He professed faith in Christ and united with the Baptist church at the age of sixteen years. He was married to Miss Rena Brown in 1884, and to this union were born five children all of whom survive him. He removed with his family to Dickens county in 1903 where he engaged in farming up to the time of his death. He was an ordained deacon in the Baptist church in 1904, and to this trust he was ever faithful and true. Mr. Loyd loved his God, his church and his family, and in his death the country feels a loss that cannot be replaced. His death occurred January 11th, 1909. He died in the triumph of a living faith in his Lord, but his influence still lives.

The God of Heaven take care of his devoted family, and may they meet some day in a happy reunion around the Great white Throne of God.
