Funeral Rites Held for Afton Resident
Funeral services for Mrs. J.A. Jackson, 72, resident of Dickens County for the past 48 years, were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 28, at the Methodist Church, Afton. Rev. W.B. Vaughn and Rev. Bob Jameson, retired Methodist ministers of Matador, conducted the services.
Interment was in the Afton Cemetery under direction of Eudy-Seale Funeral Home of Matador.
Susie Gafford was born October 22, 1878 at Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas. She was married December 11, 1898 to R. L. Raines in Cumba, and to this union one daughter was born. She was later married to J.A. Jackson, on Feb., 10, 1903, and moved to Dickens County, where she had since made her home. Mr. Jackson preceded her in death several years ago.
Mrs. Jackson has been ill for the past year and spent several months last year in Stanley Clinic, recovering from injuries which she received in a fall at her home.
Pallbearers were: L.D. Norris, Jim Ton Haney, James Cornett, Eldred Cornett, Ralph Bennett and Buck Partridge.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters: J.T. of Eden, Gaston Jackson and Mrs. Gene Slaton of Afton, and Mrs. G.H. Dickson, who lives in Germany; also 3 sisters and 3 brothers: Mrs. Docia Lindley of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Lula Raney of Ft. Worth, Mrs. Lizzie Bacumn, of Oklahoma City; Bill Gafford Duncan, Okla.; Ellis Gafford of Sulphur Springs, and Garden Gafford of Electra; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
