James Dwight JacksonIke was born to the late William Cole and LaVerne Jackson. He was born and raised in Lubbock. Early in his career he was employed by the City of Lubbock, Williams and Peters Construction and Swenson Ranch. On November 8, 1969 he married the love of his life Doris Elaine Holcombe in Paducah, TX. In 1976, he and Elaine moved to East Afton realizing his dream of farming and ranching and being able to raise his children in a rural community with rural values. He was a true craftsman both in wood and metal. A welder by trade, he could weld anything but the crack of dawn; and could have managed that if Elaine could have figured out how to hold it tight. Ike loved and lived life as big as the man he was. Born with Polio, destined never to walk, he overcame all odds living life to the fullest each day. Although he never lived a day of his life free of pain, he was not one to complain or keep him from doing the things he loved. His biggest vice was his love of all animals, dogs especially, and he could never stand to see one suffer. Ike will not be known for the number of friends, but by the quality of those friends that truly knew him.

Ike is preceded in death by his parents Bill and LaVerne Jackson, an older brother Wayne Christopher, and an infant son Johnnie Denver Jackson.

Ike is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Elaine, three children, Gail and husband Charlie Wainscott of Fritch, Carol and husband Roegan Cruse of Flomot, and Cole and wife Sandy Jackson of Dickens. Eight grandchildren, five great-grand children. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2015 from 4pm - 6pm at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m Monday, May 25, 2015 at the Afton Cemetery in Afton, Texas.
