Sinclair Hughes Photo U.S.Flag   Funeral services for Sinclair Lewis Hughes, 64, of Afton, were at 2 p.m. April 5, 1996 in the First Baptist Church, Spur, with church pastor Rev. Richard Harbison officiating.

Burial was in Afton Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mr. Hughes died April 3 in St. Mary Hospital, Lubbock. He was born August 20, 1931 in Dickens County. He married Gerry Estep in Spur on August 31, 1962. He returned to Dickens County in 1989 from Houston.

He was a regional manager for Honeywell Inc., before his retirement in 1989. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Spur VFW and Dickens Lions Club. He was a past president of the Dickens Lions Club. He also served as chairman of the Dickens County 100 year celebration. He had also served on the Patton Springs school board of trustees.

He is survived by his wife of Afton; two daughters, Gwen Bates and Diane Daws, both of Wylie; one brother, David (Pete) Hughes of Lubbock; two sisters, Hazel Cummings of Lubbock and Mamie Yeates of Roaring Springs; three grandchildren, Kirstin Bates, Tara and Alex Dawes.
