Charlie D. Hooker was born January 10th, 1889 in Hill County, Texas. He made a profession of religion at 19 years of age and united with the Baptist Church. He was married in 1909 to Miss Maud Mills, to this union five children were born.

Mr. Hooker moved to Dickens County November 25, 1926.

Mr. Hooker died March 23, 1933, aged 44 years, two months, and 15(?) days. He leaves to mourn his going, a father and mother, wife and five children, four sisters, one brother and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at Afton Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. and interment was made in the Afton cemetery. Rev. H.T. Harris was in charge of the funeral services. Rev. Victor Crabtree led the opening prayer and Rev. A.P. Stokes gave the closing prayer. The house was filled with friends of Mr. Hooker and the many friends extend their sympathy to the family.

Mr. Hooker was a devoted Christian and was a member of the Afton Baptist church. He had been sick for three weeks but seemingly was almost well when something like heart failure took him suddenly.

We loved him, yes we loved him
But Jesus loved him more.
And he has sweetly called him
To yonder shining shore.
The golden gates were opened
A gentle voice said come
And with farewells unspoken
He calmly entered home.
Written by his pastor, H.T. Harris
