Graveside services for Ila Mae Brown, 93, of Spur were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2002 in Afton Cemetery with the Rev. C.L. Atkinson officiating. Services were under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.

She died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 in Spur.

She was born June 27, 1909, in Dickens County, Texas to John N. and Flora Jane Alexander. She was a lifelong resident of Dickens County. She married James Loris Brown on Dec. 17, 1927, in Dickens. He preceded her in death Aug. 27, 1986. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Afton, where she was pianist for several years. She had been a teacher volunteer at Patton Springs School.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Janie Lou Carothers, on April 5, 2002.

She is suvived by four grandchildren, Scott Carothers of Hartley, Becky Shuler of Lubbock, Feliciano Chapa of Afton and Jose Chapa of Lubbock; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ila Mae Brown Scholarship Fund, c/o Spur Security Bank, Box 549, Spur, TX 79370.
