Funeral services for Grable Austin Benham, 72, were held at the Methodist Church, Afton, Monday, September 17, 1951.
Benham was born in Marblehill, MO. on September 23, 1879 and moved to the Afton community in Dickens county in 1925. In 1905 he was married to Miss Susie Wells in Gurdon, Ark. He was converted to the Christian religion early in life and was a member of the Methodist church.
Rev. Wayne Parmenter of McLean, Texas, officiated at the funeral, assisted by Rev. Vaughn of Matador. Interment was in the Afton Cemetery with Chandler Funral Home in charge.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Susie Benham of Afton; three daughters, Mrs. Martile Laney of Brownfield, Mrs. Lucille Floyd of Seagraves, and Mrs. Hazel Clark of Afton; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Parks and Mrs. Lizzie Walker both of Borger; and two brothers, F. A. Benham and M. G. Benham both of Seymour. He had 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
His grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Susie E. Benhan, 84, died about 2:30 p.m. Monday in Seagraves Hospital following several days' illness. She was the mother of Mrs. Howard Floyd, and had been a resident of Seagraves for 15 years.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene here, with the Rev. Burle DeBord, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Afton Cemetery, directed by Webb Funeral Home of Seagraves.
A native of Gurdon, Ark., Mrs. Benham was born Feb. 29, 1887. She had lived at Seymour until 15 years ago when she came to make her home with her daughter and her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Floyd of Seagraves, and Mrs. Bobbie Chipman of Leachville, Ark.; 22 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The former Miss Susie Wells was married in 1905 to G.A. Benham. The couple moved to Seymour from Gurdon in 1911, and to Afton in 1926. Her husband died a number of years ago. Mrs. Benham came to Seagraves 15 years ago from Afton.
