Don BaxterDon Anthony Baxter, Sr., 72, of Matador went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2011 with his wife and children by his side. Church services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday February 8, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Matador with Matt Crawford officiating. Interment will be held at the Afton Cemetery under the direction of Shannon Funeral Home of Matador.

Don was born December 24, 1938 to Paul and Clara Baxter. He was raised in Afton, Texas and attended Patton Springs ISD. He loved his community and raised his family there until he moved to Matador, Texas in 2006. He married Kathleen Ray Davis on August 7, 1959.

He worked as a cowboy and windmill man for many years of his life then retired from the Texas Highway Department in 2003 after 18 years of service.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Ray Baxter; two sons, Don Baxter Jr. and wife Colleen of Matador and David Baxter and wife Leslie of Deer Lake; two daughters, Kathy Varner and husband Bill of Wolfforth and Paula Baxter of Frisco; three brothers, Tim Baxter and wife Betty, Rob Baxter and wife Judy and Bob Baxter and wife Julie all of Arlington; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special brother-in-law, Charles Davis and wife Lisa of Idalou and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors all of whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Dandy.
