Jeter, Harold Allen
Harold Allen Jeter, 52, of 622 S. Fifth St. died in Lovington Lea General Hospital following an extended illness.  He had been a resident of Lovington for the past five years and prior to his illness was a heavy equipment operator engaged in pipe line construction.  Mr. Jeter was born on September 19, 1920 in Lamesa, Texas.  He was a member of the Baptist Church of Bloomfield, N.M. and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lovington.  He is survived by his wife, Emmie of the home, four sons; Kenneth L., Gig Harbor, Wash., Larry A., of Lovington, Ralph D., Denham Springs, La., and Dennis Kelch of Lovington.  Three daughters, Mrs. Jerry Shields, Wharton, Texas, Mrs. Michael Gomez, Las Cruces, N. Mex., and Miss Kathy Kelch of Lovington.  One brother, Albert Jeter of Farmington, N.M., and two sisters, Mrs. Haskill Worley, Lamar, Colo., and Mrs. Frank Wilcos, Kenna, N.M..  Also by four grandchildren.  Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Smith-Rogers Chapel with Rev. Wayne Williams, Baptist Minister of Lubbock and Rev. Jones, Ruth Elna 
Graveside services for Ruth Elna Jones, 90, of Lamesa, will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at 10 a.m., in Lamesa Memorial Park with Roy Byrd officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.   Ruth died on Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Lamesa. She was born on February 26, 1919 in Winfield to Roberta and Herbert Spruill. She married Clarence Raymond Jones on June 15, 1940 in Lamesa.   Ruth was a member of Delta Kappa sorority at Texas Tech where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree. She taught for the Lamesa Public School System for 21 years. She was a member at First Baptist Church.   She is survived by a son, Ronnie Jones and wife, Karin, of Austin; and friends, Reba and Dick Edwards.    She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Raymond Jones; brothers-in-law, Ralph Jones, and Melton Jones; and sister-in-law Modean Everett.  (Lamesa Press-Reporter, Aug 19, 2009 )
                                                                          
Key, Lena Melinda 
Funeral services for Lena Melinda Key, 100 years of age, a long-time North Lea County resident, died early this morning at the Lovington Good Samaritan Center.  She had been a resident of the Center since October of 1970.  Mrs. Key was born October 8, 1881 in Burnet County, Texas.  She was united in marriage to James Henry Key on June 19, 1901 at Big Spring.   Mrs. Key was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tatum.  Mrs. Key is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Violet Kinnison of Lamesa, Texas and Mrs.  Mary Lee Frier of Tatum; three sons, J. Travis Key of Mineral Wells, Texas, D. Wayne Key of Eunice, and Dr. Jack H. Key of Uvalde, Texas, and also a sister, Mrs. Essie Hughes of Burleson, Texas. Mrs. Key is survived by 14 grand children, 37 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.  Services will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 in the First Baptist Church in Tatum.  Rev. Wayne O. Perry, Baptist Minister of Lubbock and Rev. Gene North, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Tatum will officiate at the services.  Burial will be beside her late husband John H. Lisenbee, Otto  (photo)
Funeral services for Otto Lisenbee, 102, will held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Church of the Nazarene with Lee Lennon Officiating.  Burial will follow in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.  Mr. Lisenbee died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 on his 102nd birthday in Lamesa.  He was born Feb. 27, 1907 in Commanche to Greene Edward Lisenbee and Lula Vines Lisenbee.  He married Ida Daniels on May 8, 1928 in Lovington, NM.  They were married for 76 years.  They were the caretaker of Camp Arrowhead in Glen Rose for 17 1/2 years.  Otto was a veteran of the United States Nave.  He served in World War II and his rank was Carpenter's Mate 1st Class.  He had a love for fishing and gardening.  Survivors include his wife, Ida Lisenbee of Lamesa and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jesse and Henry Lisenbee. Lopez, Sipriano "C.P."  
Funeral services for Sipriano "C.P." Lopez, 79 will be Thursday, Oct. 12 at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 10 a.m.  The deceased, a resident of Lovington, was born April 27, 1927 in York Town, Texas.  He died Saturday, October 7.  A rosary will be conducted at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Wednesday, October 11 at 7 p.m., and a mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamesa, Texas on Thursday, October 12 at 3 pm.  Father Manuel Ibarra is officiating.  Burial will follow at Lamesa Memorial Park.  Sipriano and Rufina Lopez were married in April 1948 in Lamesa, Texas.  He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Ninfa and her husband Jesse Navarette and Maria Rodriguex of Lovington; a brother, Manuel Lopez of Lamesa; two sisters, Conny Esparza and Irene Baron of Lamesa; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria Lopez; three sisters, Antonia Gonzales, Margarita Chapa, Victoria Cuellar Lopez, Paublina Cuellar, and Dominga Cuellar; three brothers, Pablo Cuellar, Jose Angel Cuellar, and Marcelino Cuellar.  Family visitation hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and 8 p.m. to rosary on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Kirby-Smith-Rogers is directing funeral services.  (Lovington Daily Leader, Oct. 10, 2006) Submitted by David Minton, Nov. 2006

Malone, Mode
Mode H. Malone, 79, 2465 Buchanan, died at 6:15 am Saturday in Baptist Hospital.  Malone was a native of Bosque County and had lived in Beaumont a year.  He was a retired farmer.  Funeral services will be held at 4 pm Monday in the Branon Funeral Home in Lamesa.  Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park.  Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Garnett Pena, Beaumont; a brother J.C. Malone, Lake Charles, La. and sister Mrs. Josie Graham, McAllister.  Local arrangements were under the direction of Kelly-Hixon Funeral Home.  The body will be at the funeral home until noon Sunday before transfer to Lamesa.  (Submitted by Michele Taylor, March 2011)

Marley, William Loyd
Funeral services are pending for William Loyd Marley, age 54, who died unexpectedly Thursday,  A resident of the McDonald community since 1959, Marley suffered a heart attack at his home about noon and was dead on arrival at the hospital.  A veteran of World War II, he was born August 1, 1919 in Marlow, Okla.  Survivors include: his wife, Silverene of the home; one son William Loyd II of the home; his mother, Mrs. Lillie Marley of Lamesa, Texas; six brothers, Dan and Roy Marley of Fresno, Calif., Troy Marley of Globe, Ariz., A.R. Marley of Callahan, Colo., A.G. Matlock, Ida Cornelia 
Mrs. Ida Cornelia Matlock, 85 years of age, a resident of Lovington for the past 2 1/2 years, died at the Lovington Good Samaritan Center Sunday morning.  Mrs. Matlock was born February 10, 1894 in Lipan, Texas.  She was united in marriage to Samuel M. Matlock, November 14, 1909 at Knox City, Texas.  He preceded her in death in 1947.  She had resided in the Lamesa, Texas area since 1924, moving there from Knox City, until she moved to Lovington.  Mrs. Matlock was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Lamesa.  She is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Inez Pieper, Mesquite, Tex.; Mrs. Gladys Darwin, Corpus Christi, Tex.; and Mrs. Marie Pritchell, Amarillo, Tex.; four sons,Joe Matlock, Hoodsport, Wash.; Jack Matlock, Ignacio, Colo.; Doyle Matlock, Lamesa, Tex.; and Bill Matlock, Lovington; one brother, Ab Hodges of Crane, Tex., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Howell of Brownfield, Tex.; also by 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.  Funeral services for Mrs. Matlock will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Jackson Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. McClane, Sydney Murrel
A 15-year-old, Air Base City boy was instantly killed at 11:45 p.m. Friday when the motor scooter he was driving was struck by an automobile driven by a Lovington motorist.  The dead youth was identified as Sydney Murrell McClane, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude McClane, Air Base City.  State police identified the driver of the automobile as Ansel Farris of 123 West Central, Lovington.  According to police, young McClane was entering State Road 18 from the Air Base City road and pulled out directly in front of the oncoming Farris vericle.  Measurments made by State Policeman William Woods showed the youth was thrown 66 feet in the air from the point of impact.  The motor scooter was driven 315 feet from the point of impact.  Passengers in the Farris car were identified by police as David Haddock, 622 S. Love and Leslie Goheen, 1214 W. Monroe, both of Lovington.  The youth was a ninth grade student in Hobbs schools.  His family moved to Hobbs from Lamesa, Texas, six years ago.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Michael, 11, and Bryan, 9; one sister, Karen, two; and his maternal grandmother Mrs. E.R. Dumbar, of Lamesa, Texas.  Young McClane was taken to Lea General Hospital but was dead on arrival.  The body was released to the Griffin Funeral Home, Hobbs.  Funeral services will be conducted at Air Base City at 2 p.m. Sunday, with The Rev. McCurdy, Melba Ruth
Funeral services for Melba Ruth McCurdy, 29, 1512 W. Polk, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21 at the First Baptist Church, Rev. E.J. Bradshaw will officiate.   Mrs. McCurdy died Monday of self-inflicted gunshot wounds at Lovington Lea General Hospital.  She is survived by her husband, William N.; two daughters, Cheryl Ann, and Linda Jeannetter, both of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.K. McNew, Sudie Etta Paige
Sudie Etta Paige McNew was born June 23, 1929 in Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas and died Dec. 31, 2002 in Odessa, Ector County, Texas.  She had been a resident of Odessa, Texas since 1958.  She was the daughter of Henry Grady Paige & Grace Wagner.  She was the wife of Jay Hobbs "Jake" McNew, m. Dec 11, 1948 in Lamesa, Texas.  The mother of Vickie Lynn McNew, deceased; Dana Kaye Hukill, deceased; Shirley Diane Wilkerson, deceased; Shelly McGuire. Gardendale, Texas and Candis Jones, Odessa, Texas.  Sister of Bertha Paige Craven, Odessa, Texas; Henry Paige, Jr. Big Spring, Texas; James Paige, Houston, Texas; Jerry Paige, Big Spring, Texas; Ruth Steen, Odessa, Texas; Sue Day, Gardendale, Texas; Rita Bailey, Odessa, Texas.  Grandmother of Pamela Sharp, Rhonda Dolloff, Leslie Brown, Danielle McGuire, Matthew Jones, and Rikki Jones all of Odessa, Cheryl Brown of Richardson; and Keri Jo Hukill of San Angelo.  Great-grandmother of Ashley Wilkerson, Heather Dolloff, MaKayla Hightower, Alex Brown, Michael Brown all of Odessa; and Grace Brown of Richardson.  Co-owner & operator of McNew Carpets - Odessa, Texas (11 Years).  Burial in Old Ackerly Cemetery.  Record added Jan 4 2003, by Phil Smiley. 

Miller, Charles A.
Memorial services for Charles A. Miller, age 76, of Lamesa, were held on Saturday, at 10 a.m. at the Branch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clifton Igo, pastor emeritus, officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.  Mr. Miller died Thursday, July 27, 2006.  He was a lifelong resident of Dawson County and a member of the Second Baptist Church.  He married Ruby Beatty on Dec. 8, 1947 in Lamesa.  Survivors include his wife Ruby Miller of Lamesa; a son, Gary Miller of Lamesa; a sister, Catherin Hogans of Odessa; a brother, E.G. Miller of Illinois; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Kay Miller.  The family suggest memorials to a charity of your choice.  (Submitted by Louise G. Miller, Dorothy
Services for Dorothy Miller, 79, of Lamesa were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Teeters officiating.  Burial was in Lamesa Cemetery under direction of Branon Funeral Home.  Miller died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001.  She was born on Oct. 27, 1921 in Lamesa.  She married Speck Miller on Mar. 5, 1941 in Lamesa.  He died on Dec. 5, 1980.  She served as County Judge of Lamesa for 30 years, holding the state record for longest tenure as municipal judge.  She also worked for local attorney Stansell Clement.  She was a life-long resident of Lamesa and was a member of First Baptist Church for 75 years.  Survivors include a son, Robert of Fort Worth; two daughters, Linda McMillan and Lynn O'Brien both of Lamesa; a brother, E.B. Moreno, Mrs. Alfonsa Mojica
Rites will be held in Lamesa, Texas for Mrs. Alfonsa Mojica Moreno who died in Lea General Hospital in Lovington at 2:30 am Monday.  Mrs. Moreno was born June 10 in 1906 in Mexico.  The arrangements will be made by the Brannon Funeral Home in Lamesa.  While living in Lovington, Mrs. Moreno resided at 102 E. Ave. K.  She is survived by her husband Felix Moreno, four sons, Elias Moreno of Lovington, Marcelo Moreno of Lovington, Baltazar Moreno of Lovington, and Pete Moreno of Lovington and eight daughters, Mrs. Ralquel Mendosa of San Marcus, Texas, Mrs. Maria Robles of Lovington, Mrs. Guadalupe Rivera of Slaton, Texas, Mrs. Cecila Barientez of Seminole, Texas, Mrs. Amelia Salazar of Lamesa, Texas, Mrs. Falicita Bustamante of Lovington, Mrs. Josefina Gutierrez of Coahoma, Texas, and Mrs. Refilijio Barrientez of Plains, Texas.  She is also survived by one brother Mariam Mojica of Lamesa, Texas and a sister Tranquinlina Compos of Salinas, California.  Other survivors are 58 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Noack, Monroe
Services for Monroe Noack, 88, of Lamesa will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Lamesa.  Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Sparenburg under the direction of Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa.  He died Tuesday, April 30, 2002.  He was born Nov. 26, 1913, in Clarendon and married Lydia Freida Bertha Huse on Aug. 26, 1934, in Sparenburg. She died Jan. 13, 1986. He owned Delux Grocery and Market in Lamesa for 25 years. He was maintenance engineer at Crestview Lutheran Home in Columbia Heights, Minn., before retiring. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.  Survivors include two sons, Dalton J. of Lamesa and Larry A. of Dallas; a daughter, Dru A. Buuck of Hutto; a sister, Laura Talkmitt of Lamesa; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.  The family suggests memorials to Grace Lutheran Church Evangelism Outreach, c/o Grace Lutheran Church, 1002 N. 11th St., Lamesa, TX 79331.

Oaks, Robert Larry
Staff Sergeant Oaks was killed by hostile action in Long Khanh, South Vietnam, was serving with Company M, 75th Rangers, 199th Light Infantry Brigade as an infantry operations and intelligence specialist, operating on a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol. Recipient of the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Parachute Wings, Bronze Star with "V" Device, Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. His name is located on Panel 16W, Row 59 of the Vietnam Memorial. Son of Opal Mae Smith Oaks and Robert Dee Oaks. Lamesa High School graduate (1967).Buried at Old Acklery Cemetery. Phippips, Nathan Loy
Graveside services for Nathan Loy Phillips, 62, of Lamesa, were to be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 2:00pm at Lamesa Memorial Park with the Rev. Clifton Igo officiating, under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.  Nathan, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Snyder Oaks Nursing Home in Snyder.  He was born on December 5, 1946 in Lubbock.  He graduated from Lamesa High School in1964.  From 1968 to 1970 he served in the U.S.Army, the last year of which was spent in Vietnam.  During the following 18 months he worked in Saudi Arabia building Kohbar Towers.  In the late 1970's he attended and graduated from Texas Tech university with a major in Math.  He returned home to Lamesa and started his own business repairing appliances.  Survivors include his mother, Louise Phillips of Lamesa; and his nephew, Trey Meador and wife, Brenda of Dallas; along with their children, Alec, Josh and Alisha.  He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl Lampard Hatcher; his father, Loy Weldon Phillips; and his sister, Sherron Phillips Meador.  His friends in the community will remember his calm steady spirit and hte kindness with which he met life.  The famiy wishes to thank the First Baptist Churches of Lamesa and Snyder for their love and support during this time.  (Lamesa Press-Reporter, Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009)
