Aletha Spears was born Dec. 4, 1905, in Rowlett, Texas, to Lawrence Allen and Mary McAtee Ingley. She married Earl Henry Spears in January of 1936 in Lubbock County. She and her husband farmed in the Lubbock area several years, moving to southeastern Floyd County in 1945.
In 1950 they bought the Lakeview store, operating it until 1960. Lakeview had a post office located in a corner of the store and Aletha was the postmistress in addition to operating the store.
In 1960 Aletha and Earl sold the store and moved to Ruidoso. Several years later they moved to California. In 1996 she moved to Crosbyton, then in failing health she moved to the Spur Care Center in September 2001.
Her husband preceded her in death in January 1972.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a son, Larry Spears of Fresno, Calif.; a daughter and her husband, Pat and Milton Reynolds of Spur; a brother, Harold Ingley of Havasue, Calif.; three grand children, Darla Thomason of Spur, Danny Reynolds of Burnet, and Kelly Reynolds of Idalou; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the Ralls Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Pesina officiating. Arrangements were under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
