Hilario was born in the town of Verdia in the state of Jalisco, Mexico on December 31, 1917 to Victor Ramirez and Nolberta Urena; he was the second of 9 brothers and sisters. He married Soledad Hernandez Ortiz in Tamazula, Jalisco in 1941.
Lallo, as his family and friends called him, came to the U.S. in 1956 with his family; this was made possible by Xen Brown out of Lubbock who sponsored the entire family to come live and also work for him on his farm.
Hilario and Chole had two children: the oldest, Angel Ramirez and Mary who was a 1969 graduate of RHS and a 1973 graduate of West Texas State University. She is a teacher in Andrews.
The family moved to the Crosbyton and Ralls area in 1958. Soon after, the family made Ralls their home where he worked for Lester Johnson out toward Owens, and later with Herschel Roye.
Hilario and Soledad were founders of the San Jose Catholic Church in Crosbyton. That work started in 1959. They along with other founders of that church worked tirelessly to help make possible the dream of constructing a church there in Crosbyton.
On July 11, 1965 he was in a car accident which left him in a coma for two and a half years. He died on February 26, 1968 at the Ralls Convalescent Home. He is buried in the Ralls cemetery. At that time, he was survived by his family and two grandsons, Rene Ramirez and David Ramirez of Garden City, Ks. Today, he counts two more grandchildren: Thomas Dylan and Katherine Chloe Hiland of Andrews. In total he has four grandchildren and several great-grand children.
Lovingly submitted by Mary Hiland
