Regino Mata, Jr. was called home on Sunday, January 19, 2014. He was born to Regino Santolla Mata and Isabel Cedillo Mata on November 8, 1950, in Slaton, Texas.
Jr. is survived by 2 daughters, Analisa Mata and Marisabel Mata and 2 sons, Luciano Regino Mata and Rodrigo Mata; 9 grandchildren, Alexander, Chelsea, Brisa, Mauro and Ariana Moreno, Marialisa Mata, Cristoval, Alyana and Makayla Mata all of Ralls; and 1 great-grandson, Malikah Moreno. Jr. is also survived by 6 sisters, Melinda Mata of Lubbock, Ofelia Mata of Arizona, Julia Alvarez of Harlingen, Elsa Garcia of Ralls, Lorie Rivera of Post and Janie Mata of Colorado; 2 brothers, Oscar Mata of Lubbock and Israel Mata of San Antonio. Several nieces and nephews.
Jr. Mata was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.
At the age of 14, Jr. quit school to help his dad support the family. In 1969 he enlisted in the United States Army, received his GED and honors for his sharp shooting skills. He went on to advance his education and training and thus his career as a welder, where he began at Lee Trailer in Idalou for several years, then advancing to Eagle Picher Industries. He maintained Silver Falls Rest Area for numerous years which was quite a break, but where he encountered many different people along their travels. He was technically retired, but his recent position was back as a welder at Lorenzo Manufacturing. Honestly, he couldn't sit still. If he wasn't at work, he was looking for work that needed to be done; improvements in the yard, vehicle, home, anything to keep busy. He was a very hard worker. Jr. Mata's stories, jokes, laughter, wisdom, love, care and sincerity will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 27, 2014 at St. Michael�s Catholic Church in Ralls. Burial to follow in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home. Rosary will be held 7:00 P.M. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at St. Michael�s Catholic Church.
