Isaac Irvin Keele (Ike), was born December 22, 1882, in Bell County, and died March 4, 1963, in Crosbyton, Texas. He was buried in Ralls Cemetery. He lived to be 81 years old. He was married three times. First to Ida Dockray on December 1, 1901, in Bell County, then to Mary Udella (Della) Onstott and then to Rosa Lee Elms. All of his children were by his first wife; George Ewell, Nellie Ruth and Loma Irene.
Uncle Ike is remembered as tall and darkheaded and on the slim side. He owned a section of land (640 acres) at Ralls, Texas, and raised all kinds of grain and cotton. I guess he was the well-to-do one in the family. The family says that he wouldn't have had anything, though, if it hadn't been for wife, Ida. She had him plant his tall crops all on the outsides of the fields from the house and the shorter ones toward the house. She had a pair of binoculars and sat on the porch watching him to make sure he was in the fields taking care of business. When Ida passed away, the daughters wanted what they considered their share of everything and tried to make Uncle Ike sell out and divide the proceeds. Uncle Ike and son-in-law, Charlie, even got into a fist-fight about it one Sunday after church. Neither came out of it without black eyes and bruises. Jr doesn't think he sold then but did sometime later. There is a housing development called Keele Subdivision there now.
Ida was a very large woman. Jr remembers one time they came for a visit and she wore a poncho-type robe made of a blanket. Second wife, Della, was not a large lady and a very sweet, gentle woman. The kids loved her. She made them fresh peanut patties. Third wife, Rosa Lee, was also a very large woman. She was an old maid and brought her mother with her to the marriage. (Some of the family said Uncle Ike should have married the mother.) Rosa was a diabetic and died when she was fairly young. She was buried in Comanche Cemetery but was later moved to the Salado Cemetery.
Ike Keele and his family spent their lives in the Lubbock/Ralls area but Ike did live a short while in Comanche when married to Rosa. He was a Church of Christ member.
