RALLS (Special) - Services for Joe B. Heard, 81, of Ralls are pending with Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

He died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Heard was born in Lamesa and moved to Crosby County in 1912. He married Ruby Brown on June 23, 1935 in Ralls. He graduated from Crosbyton High School before attending Texas Tech University and McMurry College in Abilene. He was a construction engineer with the Texas Highway Department before retiring in 1972. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a board member of First United Methodist.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jane Hamilton of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth Wright and Sue Dean, both of Lubbock; two grandchildren, and a great grandson.

RALLS (Special) Services for Ruby Heard, 97, of Ralls will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Untied Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Hubbard officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

She died Friday, July 14, 2000, at her home.

She was born July 6, 1903, in Emma. She married Joe B. Heard on June 23, 1935, in Ralls. He died Nov. 30, 1988. She was one of the first residents of Ralls when it was founded. She graduated from Ralls High School and attended West Texas State College at Canyon. She worked at the Ralls Post Office. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was the secretary/treasurer for 19 years, retiring in 1971. She was also a member of the Ralls Study Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Hamilton of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Ralls First United Methodist Church or the Ralls Historical Museum.

The family will accept friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
