Tom Ed Benton was born Apr. 23, 1910 in Floydada. He is the son of Dave L. and Lenna Oldham Benton. They were residents of Crosby County, but since Ralls did not have a doctor, Lenna went to Floydada to stay with her sister Leona Garrison until Tom Ed was born. Tom Ed attended Ralls Public Schools. He was attending TCU in Fort Worth when he married.
Tom Ed married Jimmie Botkins Sept.18, 1929 in Clovis, NM. Jimmie moved to Ralls in 1927 and graduated from Ralls High School. She was the daughter of Dr. W.L. and Katie Botkins. Her family moved from Hill Co. Jimmie was employed by Dr. Haney after her graduation. At the time of their marriage Jimmie worked in Susie Flannery´s dress shop and Tom Ed worked at Bryant Link´s grocery.
Tom Ed and Jimmie have one daughter, Billie Gwendolyn. As Tom Ed recalls, it was paint-up, clean-up day in Ralls. He kept busy working as Dr. Haney delivered Billie at their home on West Watts Street.
Billie started first grade in Ralls and graduated from Ralls High in 1947, but she went to at least a dozen schools in between. She attended Texas Tech.
Billie married B.L. Anderson, Jr. They have two sons.
Tom Ed was involved in the grocery business, drug store business and farming. Tom Ed was tax assessor for White River Municipal Water Agency when it was formed.
Tom Ed and Jimmie moved from Ralls several times but moved back each time to Ralls to make it their home until March, 1964. At that time they moved to Hart where they still live. Tom Ed is business manager and tax assessor Hart School District. They are members of the Church of Christ.

Services for Tom Ed Benton, 80, of Ralls were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 1990, in Emma Church of Christ with Dennis May, minister, officiating.
Burial followed in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
He died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Dec.15, 1990 in Lubbock´s Methodist Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Floydada and moved to Ralls earlier this year, moving from Hart. He married Jimmie Botkins on Sept. 18, 1929, in Clovis, NM.
He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was involved in the grocery/drug store business and farming. He was tax assessor for the White River Municipal Water Agency was business manager/tax assessor for the Hart School District.
He attended Texas Christian University. He was preceded by death by a grandson, Brent Anderson, on July 30, 1989.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Billie Anderson of Ralls; one brother, David L. Benton of Lubbock; and one grandson, Kent Anderson of Abilene.

Services for Jimmie Benton, 91, of Ralls were at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Emma Church of Christ with Ken Free officiating.
Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
She died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at her home.
She was born July 28, 1908, in Hill County, TX. She married Tom Ed Benton on Sept. 17, 1929, in Clovis, N.M. He died Dec. 15, 1990.
She was a member of the Emma Church of Christ. She was a 1927 graduate of Ralls High School. She had also worked for the Hart school system. She moved to Ralls in 1990 from Marble Falls. She lived in Hart for several years.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brent Anderson, on July 30, 1989.
Survivors include one daughter, Billie Anderson and husband B.L. of Ralls; one brother, R.Q. Botkin of Floydada; one sister, Ruth Mosley of Ralls; and one grandson, Kent Anderson and wife Lupe of Abilene.
