Biography

The Anderson family and the Troy Payne family all came to Ralls, in May of 1952. They had bought out the old Benton Drug Store, and it was old - - formerly having been owned by the Spencer Family and even before that to Bill Marr.

The fixtures for the drug store were the ones originally installed by Bill Marr. One of the old pull drawers was labeled "Morphine" and another "Opium". These drugs along with all other "narcotic drugs", were removed from open sale in drug stores by the "Harrison narcotic Law" of 1912.

Bill Anderson had spent a lifetime in some aspect of the drug business, starting as a "Soda Jerk" in 1920 and working successfully as "front end salesman", wholesale order clerk, pricer, phone-order clerk, drug buyer, salesman calling on the retail stores, student, and pharmaceutical manufacturers´ salesman. He was travelling for a pharmaceutical manufacturer just prior to moving to Ralls.

The name of the store was changed from Benton Drug Store to Ralls Pharmacy in 1952 at the time of the purchase and is still operated under that name.

The Andersons had two young daughters when moving to Ralls, Sue Ann and Sallie. Both girls finished high school in Ralls and went on to seek higher education. Neither daughter returned to Ralls to make a home after finishing school.

The "old store" was abandoned in 1960 when Bill and Troy moved into a new store with all new fixtures and which was more than twice as large as the old location. The new location is still in operation as a drug store.

Bill had a severe heart attack in 1967 and had to stop all business activities. On Nov. 1, 1967, he sold out his interests in the store to his partner, Troy O. Payne. Bill went into retirement. Troy Payne died in October, 1974.

Sue Anderson married Ocie Forbes and they have three children.

Sallie Anderson married Brady Jones.
