Betty Sue Wagner photoBetty Sue Malone Wagner passed from this life on June 25, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Lubbock with Rev. Don Kinder and Rev. Andy Hurst officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to service time on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Betty Sue was born on March 7, 1929 in Dodson, Texas to Dewey and Annie Belle (Hill) Malone. She graduated from Dodson High School in May of 1946. She attended John Tarleton Junior College in Stephenville for two years and then transferred to Texas Tech University, receiving her Bachelor of Home Economic Education Degree in May of 1950. She married Fred P. Wagner, Jr. on November 12, 1950. A daughter, Cheryl Sue, was born in April of 1957. Betty Sue continued her education part time and received a Master's Degree in Home Economics Education in August of 1966. She began a long career teaching Child Development in the College of Human Sciences in 1966. She later earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from The University of Texas in August of 1981. Betty Sue retired from Texas Tech University in May of 1994.

Her great passion was her love for children and how they learn. She was active in a number of Texas Tech committees and societies. She was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church for almost fifty years. In addition she was a member of Lubbock Women's Club, Daughters of American Revolution, and Retired Teachers. Betty is preceded in death by her parents and an infant son who passed away June 1, 1953. She is survived by her husband, Fred of Lubbock, one daughter Cheryl Smith and her husband Tom of Morrison, Colorado, and two grandsons, Matt Smith and Ian Smith, both of Morrison, Colorado.

Instead of flowers, contributions should be sent to the Dr. Betty Wagner and Annie Belle Malone Scholarship Endowment, Texas Tech Foundation, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas 79409 or to a favorite charity.
