R.E. Guess Dies; Rites Scheduled

RALLS (Special) - Robert E. Guess, 88, of Lorenzo died about 12:25 p.m. Thursday in Ralls Convalescent Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Lorenzo. The Rev. Bruce Parks, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Slaton, and Rev. John Jenkins, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Lorenzo, will officiate.

Burial will be in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Carter Funeral Home of Ralls.

A retired banker, Guess was a native of Attalla County, Miss.

He moved to Rogers in 1894 where he became associated with the Rogers State Bank. He married Annie Rebecca Hendrick in 1905 at Rogers.

Guess joined the Methodist Church in Rogers in 1918. He served as Sunday School superintendent 16 years and was a member of board of stewards 20 years.

He also had been a member of Rogers School System Board of Trustees serving as secretary of the board eight years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Jr. of Lorenzo and James of Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. Sterling Ward of Springfield, MO.; a half-brother, Ben R. Guess of Weslaco; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joe Wyrick, J. W. Cannon, Leslie Huckaby, Don Nickson, Clyde Crump, Dan Ryan and Williard Rainwater.
