In 1951 Clester L. Griffin and his wife, Ruby, with their two small children, Raymond L. and Cara Sue, moved to their farm east of Estacado. Clester was born in Lake Creek, Delta County, Texas in 1911. He moved to Slaton with his parents, C.L. and Erin Hendrix Griffin in 1915. His brothers are Finas, John, and Minard who was killed in service in World War II. His sisters are Enid Allen, Floy Gaddy, and Iris Griffin.In 1947, he and Ruby Kirksey were married in the Lorenzo Methodist Church. Ruby was born in Crosby County; her mother also was born in Crosby County. Ruby's father came to Crosby County in 1908. Her parents are Matt and Bertha Detwiler Kirksey. Her sister is Mrs. Aaron (Mary Mildred) Sechrist.
Raymond and Cara were born while they lived near Slaton. Gail Anita was born after they moved near Estacado. Clester, Ruby and their family attended the Methodist Church in Lorenzo. Raymond, Cara and Gail graduated from Lorenzo High School. Raymond graduated from Texas A&M, and served in the army three years. He married Dianna Clark Setliff. They have two daughters, Katrina and Kristina. Cara graduated from Texas Tech. She married Randy Sanders. They have a son Joseph Benjamin and a daughter, Kimberley. Gail graduated from McMurry College, Abilene. She is married to Curtis Foote.
Ruby was an active member of the Llano Estacado Home Demonstration Club from 1945-49. This included members rom the Estacado and Farmer communities.
General Land Office of Texas originally sold this land consisting of 640 acres for $1.00 per acre to Eliza and W.G. Graham, August 29, 1898, who filed proof of residence and occupancy and three consecutive years, January 1906.
They sold to J.M. Martin June 1906 for $5,000.00 cash plus $1,000.00 note at 10% which was paid by December 1906.

LORENZO (Special) - Services for Clester Leroy Griffin, 68, of Lorenzo will be at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church here.
The Rev. Sidney Parsley, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Lorenzo Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
Griffin, a retired farmer, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Lubbock Methodist Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Delta County, Griffin came to the South Plains with his family in 1915. He married Ruby Kirksey on Dec. 28, 1947, and farmed in the Pleasant Hill Community north of Lorenzo.
Griffin was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was also a former board member and trustee.
He helped organize Lorenzo Grain Co-op and was a former member and president of Pleasant Hill Co-op Gin.
Survivors include his wife Ruby; a son, Raymond Griffin of Lorenzo; two daughters, Mrs. Randy (Cara Sue) Sanders of Lubbock and Gail Griffin of El Paso; two brothers, John Griffin and Finnis Griffin, both of Slaton; three sisters, Enid Allen of Slaton, Floy Gaddy of El Paso and Iris Griffin of Plainview; and three grandchildren.

Services for Ruby Kirksey Griffin, 85, of Lorenzo will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at the Lorenzo United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Parks and the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo. She died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Lutheran Home of West Texas in Lubbock.
She was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Crosby County to Matt and Bertha Detwiler Kirksey. On Dec. 28, 1947, she married Clester L. Griffin in Lorenzo. He died Oct. 23, 1979. She was a homemaker and farmed with her father when she was young and later with her husband. She was a member of the Lorenzo United Methodist Church and was active in the Fellowship Sunday school class and was a life member of the United Methodist Women. She also served as the church secretary for many years. She was a longtime active member of the Lorenzo Senior Citizens and had lived in the Lorenzo area all of her life.
Survivors include a son, Raymond Griffin of Dallas; two daughters, Cara Sue Sanders of Lubbock and Gail Foote of Edmond, Okla.; five grandchildren, Katrina Egan of Rowlett, Kristina Griffin of Dallas, Kadee McKinney of Lubbock, Ben Sanders of Lubbock and Wesley Foote of Edmond; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home in Lorenzo.
