Biography
Charles P. McDermett and Annie Josephine Smith were married Sept. 1, 1907 in Crosbyton. She was the daughter of of the late "Uncle and Aunt Hank" Smith, the first permanent settlers of Crosby County. The couple exchanged wedding vows in the fable Hank Smith Rock House.To this union were born two sons, J. Wilson McDermett of Morton and Charles McDermett Jr. of Snyder, and two daughters, Mrs. Nettie Edwards of Lubbock and Mrs. Agnes Robinson of Crosbyton. Annie Josephine Smith McDermett died in 1926.
Mr. McDermett and Macy Kincaid of Floydada were married in October 1927 and moved to Ralls the following year.

Annie Josephine Smith McDermett was the fifth child born to H.C. and Elizabeth Smith. She was born January 3, 1883, at Mt. Blanco, Crosby County, Texas.
Elizabeth taught her daughters all the intricate hand crafts necessary to survive the hard life of pioneering women. They were excellent seamstresses and could make beautiful clothing out of meager supplies.
Annie attended school at Mt. Blanco with the children of the McDermetts, Smiths, Potters, and Poes. She married Charles Perrin McDermett September 1, 1907. Crosby County Judge E.B. Covington performed the ceremony.
Annie was the outdoor type that enjoyed riding horses and fishing in the stream near the rock house. She preferred working in the garden and fields to house work.
All three of the Smith girls played the piano. After her marriage, Annie accompanied her husband who played the fiddle.
In 1916, Annie and Charles filed on land in the New Mexico Territory, about 20 miles north of Roswell. They shipped their stock by rail and the family moved in the Model T Ford which Charles had bought the year before. The desolate land had good grass and water about 50 feet below the surface, but very few people had settled in the area.
Annie and the children took care of the stock and Charles ran a garage in Roswell during the 1916 drought. The next two years found the family recovering from the devastating drought after a move to Dexter, New Mexico.
In 1923, Annie and Charles moved back to Crosby County and settled in the Mt. Blanco Community on a half section of land that Annie inherited at the death of her father.
Annie died April 17, 1926, and was buried in the Emma Cemetery.
Children of Annie Josephine Smith McDermett and Charles McDermett are: J. Wilson McDermett, born June 12, 1909, at Ralls; Agnes Marie McDermett Robinson, born July 10, 1911, at Mt. Blanco, Texas; Nettie Elizabeth McDermett Edwards, born July 18, 1913, at Wake, Texas; and Charles Perrin McDermett, born July 3, 1923, at Mt. Blanco.
