Obituary

R.E. Spurgin, a resident of this community for almost 34 years, was found dead in his bed shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday by his wife. The family residence is at 127 North Durham.

Although he suffered a heart seizure in 1965, Mr. Spurgin had not recently been in failing health. He attended a family reunion in McKinney last weekend.

Memorial services for the 76 year old retired farmer are scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor, and the Rev. H.G. Verner, a retired minister from Petersburg, will officiate.

Interment is to be made in Crosbyton Cemetery. King Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Grandsons are to serve as pallbearers.

Raymond Esta Spurgin was born August 22, 1898, in McKinney. He and the former Lakey Mae Osburn were married November 19, 1916, in McKinney.

They moved their family to Crosby County in October 1941 from Paducah, where they had resided for 21 years.

Survivors include the widow, Lakey Mae; one son, Kay Don Spurgin of Crosbyton; four daughters, Mrs. Gene McGowen of Perryton, Mrs. Jerry Culpepper of Denton, Mrs. Jimmie Payne and Mrs. Marjorie Dean, both of Lubbock; two brothers, C.A. Spurgin of Sherman and Elmer Spurgin of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
