Obituary

The first man to transport cattle from West Texas to Fort Worth is dead.

James C. (Jim) Reed died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. He suffered a stroke last Tuesday at Stovall Walls and was transferred to the local hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Reed, 75, had been a Crosbyton leader for many years. He was chairman of the Crosbyton Clinic Hospital board, was a director of Citizens National Bank here, was a director of the Federal Land Bank and served for a number of years as a Crosbyton Independent School District board of education member.

The widely known farmer rancher moved here in 1924. He was a native of Marietta, GA.

Memorial rites were conducted at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Grissom of Andrews, the Rev. Ernest Stewart, local Baptist pastor, and the Rev. Henry Salley, local Methodist pastor, officiating.

Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Cora; three daughters, Miss Juana Jim Reed and Mrs. Dick(Janelle) Snodgrass, both of Crosbyton, and Mrs. Virgil Chron of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Mrs. Rex Wheeler and Mrs. Otis Brown, both of Crosbyton; two brothers, Elmer Reed of Lubbock and H.M. Reed of Idalou; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

In 1967, Mr. Reed was honored by the Chamber of Commerce for being the Outstanding Citizen through the years. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Out of town relatives attending funeral services were: Messrs. and Mmes. Virgil Chron, Anchorage, Alaska; Windred Walker, Sunray; Dewey Ellison, Albuquerque, NM; George Nichols, Jacksboro; Tom Shadle, Clarendon; Buster Reed, Bridgeport; Elmer Reed, Buster Brown, H.E. Owen, Elmer Reed Jr., Harry Reed all of Lubbock; H.M. Reed, Kenneth Reed, Idalou; John Henry Reed, Dimmitt; Bill Walker, Floydada; Mrs. Duane McClue of Greenville; and Mrs. Ayleen Kendrix, Ralls.
