John Harris McDonald and Parilee Elenora Smith were married in Rapids Parish, LA, Jan. 17, 1894 where they resided until 1908. When they came to Overton, TX, they lost their first baby, Sarah, in 1895, but brought six children with them to Texas in 1916. They were: Lawrence - now of Calhoun, LA; Donald of Reseda, CA; Cassie Edwards of Lubbock; Blanche Shoup of Corpus Christi; Verma Mae (deceased 1918); Lavert Robertson, Crosbyton.They farmed one year in Smith community then moved to Shamrock, where they lost another baby girl, Annie Laura. They again returned to Crosbyton after two years and farmed in 1919, 3 1/2 miles south of town where James Harris was born, he passed away in 1934. They moved to Coushatta, LA, after James died, but later came back to this area. My father died in Crosbyton in 1946 and mother died here also in 1965.
There was no wonder when mother was asked how she stood all the sandstorms, she would say, "There are lots of things worse than sandstorms."

Mrs. Parilee McDonald, 88, a resident of Crosby County since 1916, died at 2 a.m. Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dennis Robertson, in Crosbyton.Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church here with the Rev. Carl Grissom of Andrews officiating. Assisting were the Rev. Ernest Stewart, First Baptist Church pastor of Crosbyton, and Carrol Robertson. Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dennis Robertson of Crosbyton, Mrs. R. V. Edwards of Lubbock and Mrs. H. D. Shoup of Nacogdoches; two sons, J. L. of Calhoun, La., and Donald of Reseda, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
